Two weekends ago was my baby shower. I don't have pictures right now because I have to get them from Mike's sister, but they will be posted when I do. It was such a fun time. People were so generous and Sophia is already getting spoiled. Thank you so much to those of you who have given us new things and hand-me-downs....all are appreciated!
My mom got to come into town for the shower which was great. We did some shopping and she helped me put up pictures in Sophia's room. Sometimes you just need the eye of another woman:). Thanks, Mom!

A Story and 34 Weeks

Belly

34 weeks
On Friday I went to my 34 week Dr. appointment. I went in expecting nothing because I have had no complications so far. Everything looked fine until the Dr. measured me and said that I was measuring 2 weeks behind where I should be and had not been gaining a whole lot of weight. He said he wanted me to get an sonogram ASAP in order to make sure the baby was growing properly. I asked him what would happen if she wasn't. He told me, "Then we would have to take her out soon." This threw me for a loop.
I left the Dr. office and got a little teary because I just didn't know if Sophia was doing ok. I called Mike and told him and he prayed with me on the phone. His prayer reminded me that God is sovereign, cares more about this baby than I do and that she does not belong to me in the first place.
I was able to get in for a sonogram appointment that afternoon which is amazing since the radiology department is always backed up. Our sonographer was very sweet. She did all the measurements and checked Sophia out. The findings were alarming. She is actually measuring BIG for 34 weeks (she looks more like a 35 week old baby), has chubby cheeks, and her estimated weight at this time is 5lbs. 13oz. This was such a relief. I guess she is just tucked in places that can't be measured on the outside!
It was so cool to see how God gave us beyond what we had hoped for when looking at the results. She is doing really well and it was so fun to get a little glimpse of her.
One funny part of the whole experienced happened when the sonographer tilted me back on the bed so my legs were higher than my head. I started to feel pretty sick, but told myself, "Don't be a baby. This is a lot easier than labor." (Side note: I have been coping with any pain or discomfort I have experienced during pregnancy by saying, "This isn't labor and you need to suck it up.") Well...she finished with that part and told me I could get up and use the restroom before we continued since my bladder was really full from drinking the liquid required before a sonogram. I got up and immediately started feeling light headed. I stood there for a moment holding the door open. She thought I was holding the door for her, but then she saw my face and noticed I was about to pass out. Mike immediately put a chair behind me. I fell into it and threw-up all over myself. It was so gross, but makes for a good story to tell at Sophia's 16th birthday:)!

Irises
African Violet

Gabriel and Mike
This week my irises started to go wild. I just love seeing them every year. Also, we have an African Lilac vine that didn't do anything last year, but is now starting to climb and look beautiful. The little purple flowers are so cute. I'm glad I didn't give up on it last year and yank it out of the ground.
We also had a pastor, Gabriel, from the Congo stay with us this week. It was great to hear his stories, see his generosity towards others and sense his love for Jesus. We hope to have him back here in the future.

Valentines Day with "My Girls"
This year we celebrated Valentines day on the 13th so that we could avoid the crowds on the 14th. Mike brought home presents for "his girls" before we went out on a date. Sophia got some cute pacifiers and I got flowers and chocolate. I thought it was pretty cute that Mike thought of her. My husband is the best.
That evening we went downtown to an Afghan restaurant. I splurged and got scallops and shrimp. The atmosphere was great and it was nice to go somewhere a little more fancy than we normally do. We topped off the evening by sharing a sundae at Baskin Robbins. Yum!

Weekend Update...
This weekend was really busy. The weather was beautiful so we spent a lot of time outside doing yard work, mountain biking (don't worry, I didn't do this), and hiking with friends. We also went to our friend, Ann's, b-day party, a church BBQ, and a Super Bowl party. As much fun as it all was, I'm pretty sure I overdid it. Today I feel pretty terrible and am trying to learn what it means to "pace myself." Any thoughts on how to do this?
