One Week

Sophia is now one week old. She has had a lot of visits from friends and family. We are enjoying being her parents and are impressed with her nightly sleeping patterns. Mom's been getting a few hours at a time which makes everything better.

My mom has been here this week which has been a huge help. Mike and her let me take good naps and are always available when I call. It'll be quite an adjustment when she leaves and Mike goes back to work.

Sophia's First Days

Here are some pictures of Sophia's first 2 days. The labor went very well. We went to the hospital at 9:00pm on the 14th. I had an epidural around 2am and start pushing at 6:30 am. She was born at 6:50am on the 15th.

I only got 1.5 hours of sleep during the first 36 hours and was a bit of an emotional mess, but am feeling better. Mike let me take a good nap last night and I got about 4 hours in the night. Awesome.

We love our girl. She is doing really well. Her feeding is going well and she holds her head up periodically. We think she's going to be super strong. One of my favorite parts of her is her thighs. They are really defined and already have the little dent in the front that shows quadriceps definition.

Dr. Appointment Update

I went to the Dr. again today and have made some progress! He said I am 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced. Sophia seems to be very low at this point and he told me he would not be surprised if she were to come in the next 1-2 days. We certainly hope he is right!

Egg Dying and Hunting

It was a busy week and weekend...again. We had a lot of church stuff in the evenings which was a lot of fun and good for me to mentally prepare for Easter.

Saturday night we had the Kinley's over for dinner and egg dying. Mike really got into it. I think he'll be great with Sophia.

On Sunday, we spent time with Mike's family. Victoria, our niece, got to do her first egg hunt and was very cute. She's getting to be such a big girl.

Good Friday Reflections

Today is Good Friday. It's a cloudy day here in San Diego. It's funny because I can't remember a time when Good Friday wasn't cloudy and Easter wasn't sunny. Interesting.

I've been reading a devotional on Lent and Easter called, Bread and Wine. There are some really good quotes and thoughts throughout the book that have helped me focus on what Easter means. It has been difficult to not be distracted by the upcoming birth of Sophia and I didn't want to get sidetracked amidst all the excitement. How cool would it be if she were to be born on Easter?

Mike and I were talking the other day and he pointed out how interesting it is that Jesus was buried in a cold, dark, stony tomb that was meant for death, yet he brought life and light to it upon his resurrection. He equated it with our cold, dark, stony hearts that would be dead without the light, life and forgiveness of Jesus. I liked the word picture.

This was a quote by Saint Augustine that stood out to me from my reading and seems to capture what Jesus gave up to save us:

The Maker of man was made man, that the Ruler of the stars might suck at the breast; that the Bread might be hungered; the Fountain, thirst; the Light, sleep; the Way, be wearied by the journey; the Truth, be accused by false witnesses; the Judges of the living and the dead, be judged by a mortal judge; the Chastener, be chastised with whips; the Vine, be crowned with thorns; the Foundation, be hung upon the tree; Strength, be made weak; Health, be wounded; life, die. To suffer these and suchlike things, undeserved things, that he might free the undeserving, for neither did He deserve any evil, who for our sakes endured so many evils, nor were we deserving of anything good, we who through Him received such good.

Have a blessed Easter!
